A Summer Internship For Developing
Coaches and Leaders in the Sport of Fencing

We are thrilled to announce the second year of our Fencing Corps Internship Program for college students and recent graduates passionate about fencing. This summer internship, running from June to August 2025, builds on the success of last year’s inaugural program. It offers participants valuable hands-on experience in coaching and club operations at one of the nation’s top fencing clubs.

What You'll Gain:

  1. Coaching Development: Receive comprehensive training in coaching principles and techniques from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club's elite coaches and Olympians. These sessions will cover essential skills such as leading effective group lessons, managing classroom dynamics, inspiring and motivating students, and mastering foundational teaching pedagogy and techniques. You will also gain a deep understanding of TMFC's Youth Development Model and its curriculum, equipping you to teach and mentor students effectively.

  2. Practical Experience: Throughout TMFC’s summer camps, you will actively teach and coach under the guidance of our experienced staff. This hands-on approach allows you to apply what you learn in real-time, helping you develop the essential skills, habits, and confidence needed to grow as a coach and educator.

  3. Club Operations Insight: Gain valuable experience in the day-to-day management of a top fencing club through cross-training in key areas, including marketing, data management, customer service, and organizing community events. Develop skills in effective communication with parents across social media platforms and other channels, while also learning to navigate client relationship management (CRM) software and tools to efficiently manage client interactions and ensure a seamless customer experience.

You will work alongside passionate and highly motivated educators, building invaluable skills and experiences that will serve you in fencing or any career path. Along the way, you’ll forge lifelong friendships and connections with a community that shares your enthusiasm for teaching and personal growth.

Program Highlights:

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, approximately 40 hours per week.

  • Stipend: $8,000 for the summer.

  • Benefits: Complimentary club membership during the internship.

  • Timeline: The internship runs from June 6 to August 10, with some flexibility to accommodate students returning to school early or participants competing at Summer Nationals.

  • Location: Tim Morehouse Fencing Club has 4 facilities including on the East and West Side of Manhattan, Westchester and Stamford, CT. Orientation takes place at our Manhattan locations and corps members will be working at different locations throughout the summer

  • Special Experiences: Some corps members will also travel to Summer Nationals to support TMFC students competing at he 2025 Summer Nationals in Milwaukee as well as working at the Harvard Coaches and Olympians Sleep away Camp in Massachusetts.

  • Housing: Not provided, but we can connect interns with resources for reduced-cost housing options in the city.

THE FENCNG CORPS EXPERIENCE

The Fencing Corps Summer Experience is a hands-on teaching and professional development program designed to train the next generation of fencing coaches and leaders. Corps members will work alongside elite coaches, educators, and administrators, gaining invaluable skills and experience as they lead fencing sessions for students during our summer camps.

What You’ll Learn:

As part of the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club team, you will gain both technical and professional skills, including:

  • How to Run Effective Group Sessions for Kids: Engage and manage groups of young fencers with clear goals and fun activities.

  • Teaching Pedagogy and Lesson Planning: Understand how to break down fencing concepts into effective teaching strategies and structured lesson plans.

  • TMFC’s Youth Development Model: Learn our proven approach to developing young athletes in a fun, rigorous, and supportive environment.

  • The Business of Fencing Clubs: Get a 360-degree view of fencing club operations, including program development, scheduling, and customer relations.

  • Private Lessons and Small Group Instruction: Build skills to deliver impactful one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions.

  • Camp and Event Leadership: Learn how to execute the first day of camp successfully, make campers feel welcome, and lead fun introductory fencing activities.

Program Highlights:

  • Orientation and Themed Learning: Start the summer with a two-day orientation to familiarize yourself with the program, followed by themed weekly lessons that progressively deepen your understanding of coaching and club operations.

  • Impact and Growth: Create lasting memories and inspire a new generation of life-long fencers. Over the summer, TMFC introduces 300-400 children between the ages of 7-12 to the sport across our Manhattan, Westchester, and Stamford, CT facilities.
